What is a formulation?

A psychological formulation is a 'shared understanding' of difficulties which is collaboratively developed between yourself and the psychologist supporting you. This shared understanding will make sense of how and why your difficulties developed and how they are being maintained currently. A formulation can be thought of as a 'working hypothesis' or an explanation (informed by psychological theory and lived experience) that guides the therapeutic intervention.

What is Systemic Therapy?

Systemic therapy focuses on how we may be influenced by our relationships, our interactions with others and the broader context of our 'systems' (such as our family or other social groups that we are part of). Systemic therapy views difficulties as being interconnected within these systems, rather than solely within an indiviudal. By understanding these patterns and connections, systemic therapy aims to support you to improve your relationships and emotional wellbeing.
